NATURE TRAIL
WCS is excited to continue its project of creating an outdoor classroom, including a nature trail, for all stakeholders of Newberry County. The goal is for all people who visit the WCS Nature Trail to develop an appreciation and awareness of the world environment.
The WCS Nature Trail, and the future outdoor classroom is located on the campus of WCS embedded in the Sumter National Forest.
Over the summer, WCS Science teacher, Doc Morris led a team of teachers and members of the US Forestry Service as they began cutting the trail. Volunteers from the Wal-Mart distribution center have also given a welcoming hand to clearing and cutting the path for the trail.
Currently the trail is cut and plans are being made for a bridge and for the outdoor classroom. Many classes at WCS have already taken advantage of this unique classroom setting.
