Dr. Lynn Cary
Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction

Dr. Cary has nearly 30 years of experience in education, including roles as a high school principal for 10 years, assistant principal, special education teacher, and coach. She is now the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction in the School District of Newberry County. Dr. Cary holds a BS in Physical Education from Newberry College, an MEd in Learning Disabilities from Francis Marion University, and an EdD in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University, along with an administrative certification from Clemson University. She is the proud mother of three daughters, enjoys traveling, reading, and staying active.

Dr. Beth Shelton-Brooks, Director of Elementary Education for Newberry County, has over 25 years of experience in Curriculum and Instruction, federal programs, and educational leadership. She manages Federal Funds, Gifted and Talented, Read 2 Succeed, CERDEP, and state assessments for Pre-K and Kindergarten. Dr. Brooks began her career in 1998 at Whitmire Community School, later becoming principal of Pomaria-Garmany Elementary. She earned her PhD from Capella University and is recognized for her leadership, mentoring, and commitment to educational excellence.

Dr. Katrina L. Singletary is entering her 26th year in public education. She holds a B.A. in English from the College of Charleston, an M.Ed. from Columbia College, and a Doctor of Education from Liberty University, along with Administrative Certification from Clemson University. She began as an English teacher and cheer coach before moving into the role of assistant principal.  She later served as both a middle and high school principal. Currently, she is the Director of Secondary Education, dedicated to improving student outcomes. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with her family.

Dr. Jill Christmus is the Director of Special Services. Prior to joining the School District of Newberry County, she served as the Interim Director for the Office of Special Education Services at the South Carolina Department of Education. She knew from a young age that she was meant to work in special education. Dr. Christmus holds a B.A. in Multi-Categorical Special Education from Clemson, an M.A. in Severe and Multiple Disabilities, and a Ph.D. in Special Education Administration from the University of South Carolina. She has taught students with disabilities, served as a school administrator, worked as a behavior therapist, and served at the state and federal level in assessment for students with disabilities. Outside of work, she enjoys running, and spending time with her husband and three kids.

Dr. Era Roberts is an accomplished educational leader with a Doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction and a Master’s in Education Administration from the University of South Carolina. She specializes in curriculum development, instructional leadership, and technology integration. As the Director of Assessment, Accountability, and Professional Development for the School District of Newberry County, she manages evaluation programs, state testing, and professional development. Honored as the South Carolina Secondary Assistant Principal of the Year, she also teaches educational leadership as an adjunct at the University of South Carolina.

I am an arts programming coordinator with extensive experience in designing, implementing, and refining arts education programs. I believe in the power of the arts to help all learners succeed and bring a unique perspective as an artist, teacher, and coordinator to support educators and students. With a BS in Communicative Disorders and an M.Ed in Educational Leadership, along with 15 years of teaching experience and various leadership roles, I am passionate about fostering community collaboration and lifelong learning through the arts. My greatest strength lies in turning possibilities into reality for arts education.

Michael "Bucky" Ware is in his 26th year in public education and his seventh as the Technology Integration Specialist for the School District of Newberry County. He supports Technology Teacher Leaders and classroom teachers in integrating instructional technology, planning professional development, and enhancing district publicity. Previously, Ware spent 19 years teaching English, Journalism, and Media Production in Richland School District 2, while also coaching golf, tennis, and softball. A graduate of Newberry High School, he holds a B.A. in English from the University of Georgia and an M.Ed. in Educational Technology from the American College of Education. Ware enjoys attending concerts, following University of Georgia athletics and the Atlanta Braves, and spending time with his wife Amanda, their daughter, and three cats.

Jared is a dedicated and experienced educator with 18 years in the field, currently excelling in his role as an Instructional Technology Support specialist with the Newberry County School District. A proud graduate of Mid-Carolina High School, he went on to earn his B.A. in History from Newberry College and later achieved a Master's in Education Administration from Lamar University. With a deep passion for integrating technology into education, Jared served as the Technology Teacher Leader for several years at MCMS. In 2014 he was selected as the Teacher of the Year for Mid-Carolina Middle School. Outside of his professional life, Jared enjoys sports, outdoor adventures, and traveling with his family, making the most of every opportunity to explore new places and create lasting memories.

Kelly began working for the School District of Newberry in January 2001. She currently holds the position of Administrative Assistant to the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction. Before joining the School District, she spent 5 years as the assistant to the Executive Director at Newberry Disabilities and Special Needs. Kelly graduated from Newberry High School and Midlands Technical College. She enjoys shopping, spending time with her family, and spending time on Lake Murray.

My name is Edlin Teran Del Valle and I hold the position of Secretary to Director of Instruction here at the Newberry County School District. I am a Newberry High School graduate of 2003. I hold an associate degree from Piedmont Technical College in Business Administration and a bachelor's degree in business administration from Lander University.  I am fairly new in my position, but I look forward to using my past experiences and knowledge to help the community of Newberry.  When I'm not working you can find me spending time with my husband, our three daughters, and our yorkie named Viva. Together we enjoy traveling, trying new foods, and spending time with family.
